Half marathon for Cancer research

Donate & share to show your support

Latest:

Only a couple of weeks to go till the BIG race!! Fortunately last weekend we managed to complete 22km down in Torquay, so feeling a lot more confident now than I did before. But you never know how you are going to feel on race day.

I also wanted to thank the lovely ladies who will be joining me this weekend for the high tea - thank you for being SO generous with your donations! Cure Cancer, Can Too & I really appreciate your support!

Also thanks all my other kind family & friends, far & wide for your donations & your physical & emotional support - it has been needed!

Update:

My knee is starting to feel a bit better, managed to do a couple of runs and not be in agony afterwards. So keeping fingers crossed it stays that way. So far I have managed to run 10km and yes, it was tough, so how I am to complete 23km in a few weeks, I can only imagine...

We have our time trials this evening, my first one as I haven't been able to run for the previous two trials, so should be interesting and then we are meeting for a pub dinner/drink.

Trying to build up my numbers for the high tea below, please if you can, please come and support this great cause!! I am hoping to get 20-40 people there, so anyone and everyone is welcome....ladies & GENTS, friends, family, associates, etc....

Thanks everyone who has supported so far, I hope to do you proud on the day and you have contributed to such a great cause. If anyone would like to help generate funds for this charity, I am looking for anyone who can do some baking and sell it to colleagues at work or donate prizes for a raffle. Unfortunately I am not working at the moment, so can't do this myself. (plus baking is not my strength--so any help is welcomed!)

Thanks all x

Nothing like an obstacle in the way to drum up some drama... yes, my knee is trying to prevent me from training with the team. I have had to miss a few training sessions which is quite stressful as I know I need to improve my fitness but if your leg doesn't play ball, you have no choice. So, I have been to the physio and he suggested I spend some hard earned money on a good pair of new trainers (takkies) and then do a number of exercises to improve the strength around my knee. He said it was from everyday wear and tear - so not much I can do about that. But, he did say I should still be able to do the half marathon which is good news...I think!!

Thanks everyone again for your support!

Well, I'm now 3 weeks into my training, shew, you wonder how you are going to run 23 km when you can't even comfortably run 5km....

The week runs are more about exercises, sets, etc and the Saturday morning runs are about building up the distance. Last Saturday was hard work, had to walk a couple of times as I went out too fast. So hope to get that better this week and maintain my pace.

Thanks to all of you who have already donated, I know a few of you have mentioned that you will, so looking forward to receiving your donation to such a worthy cause. Thanks so much!

Cheers

Hi family & friends,

My friend Lee has inspired me to train with Can Too to raise money for Cancer Research. She will soon have completed two fantastic challenges with them.

My challenge and the way I plan to raise money is by running the Great Ocean Road half marathon on the 20th May.

As many of you will know, running is not my strength, so I will definitely need all the support and guidance that Can Too can provide.

The training with Can Too takes place every Thursday evening and Saturday morning at 07h30. (Eeek, what have I done..)

On a serious note, I am challenged to raise $1750 to take part in the event, so anything you can donate to this great cause will be really appreciated.

Thanks for your support, I hope to do you proud.

Shona
